Orthotics for plantar fasciitis

How do orthotics work for plantar fasciitis?

There are three main theories about why orthotics may help to reduce plantar fasciitis pain.

  1. Reduce pressure from the ground

When we walk we place a lot of pressure on our heel. If the tissue under the heel is trying to repair, the pressure from the ground with each step may delay that healing. Orthotics may help plantar fasciitis by spreading the pressure from the heel to the arch.

  2. Limit pronation

A cause of plantar fasciitis for some people might be the way their foot moves, such as the arch dropping, or pronation. This may place extra stress on the plantar fascia. Orthotics may help to reduce pain in the heel, by reducing the stress on the plantar fascia by supporting the arch.

  3. Allow muscles to work

For some people, their muscle may not be in a position to properly support the arch. By supporting the foot, orthotics may allow these muscles to function properly.
