Taping for plantar fasciitis

Strapping tape.jpg

Taping refers to the use of strapping tape to help support the arch of the foot. The aim of this treatment is to reduce the strain or stretch of the plantar fascia (see What is plantar fasciitis).

People often experience an immediate reduction in pain, however this does not tend to last and the tape stretches after a few days. The tape can be re-applied if you find this treatment works well for you. If you find that taping is helpful, a longer lasting solution that is similar to taping is orthotics.

Taping can be applied by your podiatrist, or you can attempt to apply it yourself at home. To do this you will need some strapping tape, and possibly some scissors to cut the tape. The video below outlines how you can apply the tape.
